Publication in Erj is made possible by way of the Hathi press, a device the origin of which is obscured by folklore. Named for a pre-Jassalean monk of the Xingu monastery in Odashq, the popular legend goes that the press was created from Hathi's desire to spend less time copying texts by hand, and more time partaking in the monastery's peerless lichen mead.
In this story, Hathi is typically portrayed as a cunning layabout, able to accomplish great feats in the pursuit of sloth. However, most serious erjan historians believe Hathi simply had an engineering mind, and is believed to have been invited to join the sages of Nulspire, so world-changing was his invention.
