The land surface of Erj is almost totally barren, save for laborously-tended regions such as erjan farms, or the sylph city state of Llyri. What vegetation is able to survive unsupervised is usually very sparse—common are small succulents and lichens, the latter of which is popular for tea.
Larger plants, and even trees, do manage to survive sporadically, though the success of an erjan forest often depends on the configuration of nearby terrain to help shield new growth from the ash and merciless sun.
