The mountainous clouds that tower over the Erjan horizon by day are seldom seen at night, appearing almost to follow the sun as it sinks from view. This phenomenon is not entirely understood, but it does offer a nightly, unobstructed view of the ever-changing stars.
Deep in the waste, the distant horizon can sometimes disappear completely as the stars above and the ash below create a dazzling, undifferentiated field of lights, making night travel for inexperienced pathfinders ill-advised.
