Very few sylph ever leave Llyri, and thus it is difficult to ascertain what proportion of the population can safely breathe ash without toxic results. Rough estimates are as high as one in eight; The Celestial Heritage Conservatory, however, insists on a much lower figure, hardly worth consideration. Typically treated as second-class citizens, options for a satisfying career and life within Llyri’s borders for ‘ash breathers’ are few.
But, though ash-adjusted sylph are forbidden to serve the theocracy in any official station, the Conservatory does not officially condemn them as abominations. Many of Llyri’s most prominent biologists and archaeologists are these, with their aberrant condition allowing them safe travel throughout Erj unburdened by the heavy respiratory equipment required by the Astral Templar or government officials.
