Save for the odd genetic aberration, the sylph would be forever confined to their shoreline home in Llyri were it not for the discovery of portable, battery-powered ash filtration. The filters provide the sylph a lifeline to the other cultures of Erj, enabling trade and allowing them to survive until their divine return to the stars.
The technology, however, is beyond the sylph’s ability to replicate, and while additional filter and battery units are periodically found on sylph archaeological expeditions, they remain essentially finite in supply, and are thus extremely valuable.
