The occasional erjan who has a passing familiarity with the true suneater culture—minus their facade of demonic barbarity—has typically heard that they enumerate large passages of time only in days. However, this is not the only importance the concept of day holds for suneaters; the Day as life is a ubiquitous metaphor in suneater culture. This Day refers not only to the life of the individual, but to the life of civilization, of Erj itself. Suneater augury tells of an inevitable Night to which all must submit—this is largely interpreted to be the end of the world.
