In modern times, many Amnuae columns have been repurposed. Most frequently, scaffolds are erected for advertising space, though it is not uncommon to encounter a column moonlighting as a post office, a restaurant, or a shrine to a local spirit. Columns, however, are very tall, and these too are often nonetheless equipped with advertising space.
One column that has explicitly been barred by law from modification is the colloquial First Spire, which towers over Ras Huran’s Highbelt district. While this column is exceptionally unlikely to have been the civilization’s first, its excellent condition, picturesque location, and geographic proximity to the diaspora of Amnuae living in Ras Huran make it the most famous of the columns—and perhaps tragically, a popular sight for tourists.
