Several sylph archaeological expeditions to the lands surrounding Llyri have uncovered evidence that the suneaters and sylph share a common ancestor. Birdbone tools and other artifacts found at ancient sylph sites seem to indicate that, at one time, the two cultures were one. To the average sylph, the idea that they are biologically linked to what they consider to be a ‘lesser’ species—one which rejects Ybris’ promise of a return to the sky, in favour of an Erjbound devotion to the sun—is simply distasteful. To the scholars of the Celestial Heritage Conservatory, however, it is tantamount to heresy. Over time, more than a few important relics that could help determine the truth have gone missing—or, worse, been accidentally destroyed. The Conservatory continues to insist that this is merely coincidental.
