Ras Huran’s docks are a time capsule, a monument to the tides that slammed into the harbour and effectively slew the city. The endless wreckage has been left untouched for years—at least officially. Over time, Ras Huran’s poorest citizens have converted and modified the overturned ships and sinking boardwalks into living spaces; a slum within a slum. Ironically, ash has difficulty accumulating over water, and so the inhabitants of the docks enjoy higher quality air than much of the rest of the city.
RS010
Dal and Qebrus walk toward great stone stairs that descend into the ruined Ras Huran harbour. The skeletal remains of sea-faring vessels crowd against the damaged docks, repurposed into homes by the city's poor.
Dal
So have you heard this nonsense about the sun falling?
Qebrus
This is... news.
Qebrus trudges down the stairs, Dal still sitting on his shoulders. People whisper and watch warily as they pass by.
Dal
There was a sage from Nulspire at the butcher's stall today and--
Qebrus
I cannot believe you have not yet been caught.
You are going to put Niasth out of business.
Dal
Do you know how much of the yatac gets thrown away?
He's putting himself out of business.
They cross over murky water on bridges fashioned from brittle boards. Torches light their path through the makeshift neighbourhood.
Dal
Anyway so this guy, he seems to think that the Sun is decaying in its orbit.
That it's actually falling.
Gonna kill us all.
Doesn't that sound... stupid?
Dal leans on one hand, her elbow resting on Qebrus' head. She rolls her eyes and sticks out her tongue at Qebrus' answer.
Qebrus
It sounds like the Abrogation.
That Ybris is calling for The End.
