Llyran idioms are replete with imagery of wind, the open sky, and the vitality of breath. This predilection is as much a result of the sylph respiratory system’s poor ability to neutralize the ash in Erj’s atmosphere as it is their civilization’s extraordinary capacity for engineering solutions to manipulate and purify air; over centuries, a rich metaphorical lexicon has developed and become foundational to the sylph language.
(The Sky) Beyond the Sky
The sylph interpret Ybris as the vastness of outer space itself—literally speaking, she is the sky beyond Erj’s sky.
Curiously, the truncated variant of this phrase has another meaning entirely—to call an individual ‘beyond the sky’ insinuates irrationality and nonsense.
“Are you beyond the sky? Dad’s never going to believe we ate the whole thing ourselves!”
Blow Through
To mend, repair, or heal something with composure and resolve, much as the wind running through Llyri’s labyrinth of ventilation pipes continually removes ash from the city’s air.
"The Solon’s tailor blew through her liturgical tights—she’d never notice they’d been worn, let alone ripped."
Choke (Off)
A demand that someone go away, stop talking, or cease an irritating behaviour. While not vulgar language, its use is considered somewhat crass.
"Will you choke off already? You’ve been talking about your wife since we got back from the funeral!"
