Common slurrie is made by pressing the stalk of the Beige-capped Ixical—referred to simply as a ‘slurrie pod’ by most—and combining the resultant foamy sludge with hot water. The unmistakable earthen taste of raw slurrie is beloved by few but the most hardcore of purists, and thus the addition of sugar and other seasonings are mainstays of the beverage.

Rather than flavour, the uniting appeal of slurrie is in its ability to grant the imbiber a boost to energy and alertness, leading to its reputation as a staple of the typical erjan’s morning, and an associated culture of humourous and merchandizable catchphrases such as “Not Before Slurrie”.
