The armour of an Astral Templar can deflect most otherwise fatal physical blows—however, that it can absorb the force of them without injuring the sylph inside is little more than a welcome side effect. Due to the armour’s enormous size relative to its wearer, a surplus of padding is required to ensure it fits at all; the dissipation of incoming attacks is merely serendipitous.
The sylph engineers responsible for the armour’s design initially struggled to afford a soldier maximum protection and free movement, while also allowing room for the reclaimed filtration system necessary to keep ash out of vulnerable sylph lungs. Unable to miniaturize technology that is not fully understood, the armour was essentially designed around the filter.
