That the suneaters excel in talents of engineering is made all the more impressive by the fact that they are a nomadic people, with little in the way of permanent infrastructure. Most equipment possessed by the suneaters must be able to be efficiently moved—with the exception of the Fires.
Across Erj are various ruins, into which enormous kilns are installed; this is not the work of whatever forgotten civilization once built them, but the various suneater clans who have for generations intermittently occupied them as they move around the waste. Ceremonial as much as practical, these Fires represent the traveling sun, and power much of suneater industry.
