An issue of contention among a minority of Nulspire’s sages is the implementation of the neutral word ‘culture’ to describe thrall rituals and practices. While the word’s definition is not debated, the degree to which it properly characterizes thralls is—the concern being that it casts thralls of Ybris as a distinct race or ethnic group, neither malignant nor benign.
In actuality, thralls are members of any one of Erj’s races, bound not by origin, but ideology. That this ideology encourages such brutal and dangerous behaviour—specifically, any action which aids in the extinction of life in Erj—it is contended that they be, in all Nulspire literature, clearly labelled a cult, and a threat.
