By no means should one conclude that the rudimentary weapons brandished by thralls of Ybris indicates in any way a lack of intelligence or understanding. The life of a thrall is one chosen, not unlike that of a monk; each member—be they erjan, eidolan, suneater, or (quite rarely) sylph—has volunteered secession from civilization, and brings to the cult their knowledge and experience.
Rather, the state of thrall arms is born of a confluence of factors, the first and most obvious being a lack of access to the resources and modern processes of manufacture enjoyed by a society from which one has withdrawn. Thralls are limited to work with whatever they can find.
