"Only Night will stop the mail."
The slogan of the Western Allied Postal Guild is one of the most well-known turns of phrase in Erj, and it employs one of Erj's most well-known metaphors, as well. Emphasizing the Guild's tenacity and endurance, the phrase refers to the suneater concept of Night—the conclusion to the Great Day of Erj, beyond which the physical world will cease to be, absorbed by the world of the spiritual.
As the centuries have passed, erjan writings of and superstitions surrounding suneater culture have corrupted Night in the minds of most to mean simply 'apocalypse'; a reductive definition, to say the least, but today, the dominant one—and certainly enough to stop the mail.
