Given a mire’s ability to ensnare even the careful Erjan wayfarer, one may understandably assume a cottage industry exists in which, through the use of special equipment, any valuables the dead may have been carrying are retrieved and resold for profit.

In short, this is not the case. While it is true that some few do indeed trawl mires for items of worth with weighted nets and even specialized harnesses, it is rarely worth the effort. Those unfortunate enough to become lost to a mire are most often lost alone, making it nearly impossible to know where to begin to look—and then, of course, there are mireworms.
